I graduated! I’m a Master! Check out my un-ironed regalia!
There have been a lot of changes in the air these past few weeks (more updates to come), so it felt especially satisfying to spend a day recognizing the accomplishments of the past couple of years. In particular, I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know some of the leading voices in this field, those talented movers and shakers who compel us all, newbies and veterans alike, to reflect upon our practices constantly. I am proud and excited to finally join this daring, creative, supportive network of school and public librarians as a peer, not just an apprentice.
For this reason, it felt particularly appropriate that our Keynote Speaker, Mr. Kurt Anderson, urged us to stay connected to the spirit of play in our professionalism and warned us to be careful with the expertise we’ve gained in the past few years. He encouraged us to not abandon the confidence and curiosity we felt as beginners and even compared amateurism to good cholesterol.
I’m sure it’s easier said than done.
Here’s to us, 2013!
Hip hip!
